You probably know I was one of the founder members of the RTFHS many years ago, and I remember a few people were tracing the Ripleys, I believe Barbara Walsh was one of them and she sent me some pictures of her relations, Mark Ripley comes to mind. Have you been in touch with Barbara - if not I can give you her details? Hopefully I'll make it to Stow, have got a few friends who want to come with me as usual, but got some health problems at the moment so I'll see nearer the time. If anyone has gypsies by the name of Heaven (Birmingham area?) namely a George Heaven born 1890 who had a daughter Ivy Irene in 1911, there is a lady named Angela who would love to know more.

Does anyone know the gypsy rhyme that begins: 'Do you rokker Romany, can you chin the.....' I cant remember anymore! My cousin Rosemary used to say it over the phone to me, I'd love to have the whole rhyme again. I know its an old one.

Just come across this website and have found a picture of my great grandmother (Amy Pickett) through Beverley Cherry photos. I am Annie Pickett's grandson. Fascinating, because this is the clearest picture of the Picketts I have seen.

This site is such a blessing to all of us trying to figure out our Romany roots. My grandfather was a Bailey (Baillie it was spelled when they first came to America from Scotland, I am told) from South Carolina in the USA. The family claims to know little about them, but my genealogy research is turning up probable Romany roots on all sides. Would love to hear from any Rom Baileys/Baillies, and, of course, any potential relatives.

hi i must say i think this site is brilliant. . i especially love the photos. i am trying to trace my family history. my grandmother was roseanne Hedges and she was married to bill giddins and was from chatham. they had 9 children elvinia, george, ivy, mary, ( my mum ) eliza, katy, jhonnie, billy, and olive. my great uncle henry hedges was married to margaret ( noony ) boswell, who died in childbirth. l was interested in the ash tree lane pictures and recognise some of the family names. if any one can help me with any of other family connections l would be grateful. i know that there is a connection to hughes , upton and boswell but that is all so far.

I am a descendant of Richard Lock & Mary Eldridge m. 1698 in Ampney Crucis, Gloucestershire. At least I am pretty sure they are my USA immigrants anyway lol. Always looking for my Lock(e) cousins :)

DNA testing confirms I am a 65/67 DNA match to Henry Lock's lineage of South Cerney, Gloucestershire 1770's, so some how Henry Lock is related to my Richard Lock, but not sure how yet.

Can anyone help. I am tracing my fathers family tree - Jackson and have been trying to find his Auntie Dot (nee Dorothy Jackson) who married a Jim Stevens - Ashford. My Father lost contact when his father died. After tring to find my great Aunt Dorothy for the last 5 years the message on the grapevine to Deal was that she had sadly passed away, so sadly I am too late. Hi Paul, don't know if you got my other message. but l came across your Paul Stevens Page and was pleasantly surprised to see a photo of you standing in my ex Vickers Special. it brought back lovely memeories. l knew instantly it was my ex trailer as l made all the blue velvet curtains for it ( including the lace.) The other tell tale sign was the panel on the side. we lost one towing so the other one had to be moved. it was still in good condition when we sold it on in Stowmarket, but l it had considerably deteriated as time went on. l am thrilled it has been restored. Have you had any Funny goings on in there by the way?

i have nt had much luck as yet with family tree. although Martha Hedges did bear a striking resemblence to my sister. the trouble is my great granfather Henry Hedges was married twice and had 2 sets of families. The same thing happened with my grandfather Bill Giddins who was also known as Bill Gorman. He had 2 sets of families too. Thanks for all your help. Great site.

Am trying to find my ancestors. Unfortunately have been unsuccessful. My Great Grandfather went by the name of 'Harry Gray' though I believe his name may have been Henry. As you can imagine it is difficult to trace his roots, and it was suggested by a Web site Author called Alex, that this site might be able to help. Harry (Henry) is thought to have been related to the scottish gypsy travellers and is believed to have come from a family of horse traders. I would apprreciate any help in tracing my family tree along this direction. Any help anyone might have would be greatly appreciated. The last known residence of my great grandfather was near Kings Cliffe in Northamptonshire/Lincolnshire.

Many thanks for your message. Unfortunately I've had a lot of bad health for most of this year and have only kept to fixed events and haven't so far arranged anything for next. I'm struggling to keep up with writing the journal and all that involves and haven't even got round to updating the website, although I have masses of new information I'd like to go on. Romany Road has turned into a full time job, I was on holiday recently and came back to 269 Emails alone, without answering letters, sending out journals and typing up all the stories etc., plus I have a hectic family life! However, I am still hoping to bring out a book of photos next year from all the wonderful photos that have been sent in, but I shall have to get a grant first. If somebody can suggest a central place were we could have a get-together that would be great, I keep asking but so far nobody's come up with anything. The minute they do I will advertise it on the website and do all I can to make it a great day!
